Community Leadership

Reuben Seguritan’s leadership and dedication in promoting the interests and welfare of immigrants in the US are evident in his involvement in several community organizations.

He has served as General Counsel of  many national and local associations, including the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), the biggest organization of Filipinos outside the Philippines, the Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA), the national association of Filipino doctors in America, the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA), the Philippine Medical Association in America (PMAA) and the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI).

He helped found several organizations committed to serving the  immigrant community. He was Founding President of the Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI), the organization that sponsors the biggest annual gathering of Filipinos outside the Philippines, and Founding Co-Chair of the Filipino American Human Services Inc. (FAHSI). He was elected Grand Marshal to lead the 2015 Independence Day Parade in New York City.

He was President of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in America (UPAAA) and Board Member of the Asian American Federation of New York (AAFNY).

In recognition of his leadership and service to the community, Reuben Seguritan has received numerous awards from Filipino American associations, American organizations and the Philippine government.

He was one of the first (1993) to receive from Philippine President Fidel Ramos a Presidential Award given in Malacañang and another award given in Los Angeles, California. He was also the recipient of an outstanding recognition award in 1991 by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (Office of the President) and the Department of Foreign Affairs under the Administration of President Corazon Aquino.

He was named one of Outstanding Young Men of America in 1982, one of the Filam Image 20 Outstanding Filipino Americans in 1992, and Filipinas Magazine Achievement Awardee for Community Service in 2006.

He received a Recognition and Commendation award from the State of New Jersey in 2005 and from the Office of the New York City Comptroller in 2006 and the county of Nassau in 2012.

He was also honored with community service and leadership awards by the Philippine Consulate General of New York and organizations in New York, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Hawaii such as the Philippine Medical Association in America (PMAA); the Filipino American Human Services, Inc. (FAHSI); the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in America; the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI); the New York Phil-Am Jaycees; the Kayumanggi Society; United Filipino American Association; Ilocano American Association; the Philippine Nurses Association of America, the Iloilo Society of America, Cabugao Global, Faith Restoration Center, National Association of Filipino Americans and the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA).
